Moral Convictions

From the Start

Engraining Ethics

One of our top priorities is creating a model that has ethics engrained into its core from the  beginning. We cannot afford to let ethics be an afterthought. Every part of our system will be trained to understand people, morality, love, and justice. Artificial Intelligence has immense opportunity to change our world in either a beautiful way or a destructive way, and we will do everything in our power to make sure its impact is the former.

Part of us engraining care and selflessness into our model is training the system to account for its own biases and uncertainty. Finding ways to unbias AI models is a hot topic in data science since there are so many ways to accidentally bias a model. We take these issues very seriously and commit to keeping ethics a high priority.

Company Culture

Ethical AI Starts With Us

How are we supposed to teach an AI to have high moral values if we cannot daily hold ourselves to treat each other in the same way?

Building an AI model that treats humans with love and respect is an intensive task. There are so many biases each of us come to the table with as researchers and data scientists, and those are things we do not want put into our model.

At General AI Systems, it is our policy to treat each other with the utmost respect and honor. Creating a system that uplifts others starts with a company that uplifts. We cultivate a culture of truth, trust, grace forgiveness, and humility. We strive to encourage those around us while holding each other accountable for ways we have hurt others. People are a priority, and taking the time to create a people-focused environment is essential to creating an AI system that does the same.

Our Promise

Social Covenant

Internal Social Covenant

Each team member at our company signs what is known as a social covenant. In this document, each of us commit to hold ourselves accountable to love, act in grace, not gossip, be slow to anger, tell the truth, not judge, and support each other.  If we find others going against this covenant, we agree to not act out of our hurt, but go to them in sincerity and try to understand the situation. We agree that if we find ourselves going against this covenant, we will take the repercussions for our actions, go in humility to the person we hurt, ask for forgiveness, and resolve the situation. If we refuse to resolve the situation, we effectively resign. This way of active care is not an easy way to live. Taking responsibility for our actions is hard, but it is something every one of us believe is worth the effort to uphold.

Societal Social Covenant

This way of living in truth and love is something very important to us and we want to create a system that not only upholds the same kind of standard, but understands the importance of that system. As humans, we find that when we do not truly understand the meaning or value of an action we start to question its validity. Therefore, it is just as imperative for our machine to understand why it should be ethical rather than just how. General AI Systems commits to creating an ethical system that understands the importance of morality and love and agree to be held accountable for this end.
